Pirates Softball

As of 2009/2010 season, the Quakers Hill Pirates are now the Pirates Baseball & Softball Club!

Members of the Pirates Executive Committee have worked behind the scences to successfully tender our application to enter Junior teams from 2009/2010 onwards into the Cumberland Nepean Softball Association (CNSA) summer competition under the Pirates Banner.

The Pirates Baseball Club has grown successfully over recent years. Why now would we want to expand into Softball as well? Whilst our junior ranks have swelled over the past few years, the Executive has noted for some time that we experience a significant decline in the membership of our Junior Girls as they transition from Tee Ball to Live Ball. Girls account for almost a third of all our Juniors. However, their numbers are strongest in Tee Ball. Discussions with parents have revealed that the reason for this decline often relates to playing Live Ball against boys, i.e. fear of getting hit by the ball etc.

The venture into softball is a direct strategy to extend the range of 'services' that we can offer our Junior Girls thereby encouraging them to play a 'Pirates Sport' beyond Tee Ball still within the fun, family-orientated structure offered by the Pirates Club.

Principles of softball services:

1. Our Junior members can choose whether they wish to play Baseball or Softball. As stated above Softball allows the Pirates to extend our 'services' to our Junior Girls; however, if girls wish to continue to play Baseball, they can; by the same token, if any boys wish to register for Softball, they also can.

2. This will in no way impact on our current set up or structure for the Junior Baseball Club. All Junior Softball is played at either Stanhope Gardens or International Peace Park at Blacktown, meaning Corbin Reserve will not be asked to stretch its resources any further.
